As local label marlow finds a new home at Willows we caught up with Stacey Greer for some insight into the label and the woman behind it!
Willows: Thanks for taking some time out with us Stacey, would you mind introducing yourself and tell us what you do?
Stacey: My main role at the moment is mum to two little toddler boys, Abel and Arlo. When I get a quiet moment away from my loves I work on my other baby, marlow.
W: What is your inspiration for this collection?
S: I actually designed the summer range when I was on holidays at Broken Head on the north coast. This beautiful part of the world definitely inspired this collection and has given it a very coastal feel. All marlow collections have an effortlessness to them but this range in particular has a really relaxed vibe and is made up of items that belong in holiday wardrobes!
W: How did you find yourself in fashion design?
S: It was never an intention of mine to be become a fashion designer but it is where my adventures have led me and I couldn’t be happier. I actually studied Fashion Business at FBI Fashion College in Sydney in my early 20’s and ended up working at the College for a few years, which I loved. After a few overseas adventures I settled back in Newcastle and realised my dream of opening a boutique with the launch of Missy Mou, a joint venture with my mum. I owned and operated Missy Mou for over 5 years which was great, but I couldn’t give it the time it deserved whilst running after two small kids so closed it down earlier this year. During my time at Missy Mou I decided to launch an in store label designed especially for the Missy Mou customer and that is how marlow was born!
W: Why Newcastle as the launchpad for your label?
S: We just have so many great things going on in the Hunter at the moment and a really supportive customer base who are interested in small labels and local product, so there is no other place I would rather be!
W: What do you do when you are not designing?
S: Being the mum of two boys my world is filled with dinosaurs, play dates and potty training and all the other unglamorous but wonderful things parenthood entails! When I do get time to myself I love baking and shopping for clothes for the boys and am also obsessed with real estate, so I spend a lot of time on Domain and dreaming up my ideal home!
W: To help us understand the look, can you describe the marlow woman?
S: marlow was born from a desire to create beautiful styles that would be cherished in women's wardrobes for a long time. Those perfect basics and everyday pieces that are easy to throw on and feel good in. With a focus on beautiful fabrics such as rayons, cottons, linen and silk they are items which are not only aesthetically pleasing but also lovely to wear. Each season features an offering of soft jersey pieces, relaxed basics, signature prints and a few statement pieces thrown in for fun. I love seeing who buys marlow and how they wear it and the highlight for me has been seeing its appeal across ages. It’s such a special thing when I see a mother and daughter both buy from a range.
W: What’s next?
S: After making the decision to close Missy Mou and focus on being a mum I’m trying to take it in baby steps with marlow. So for now, just happy developing the label locally (and so very happy to be stocked in the beautiful Willows Home Traders!). I’m currently developing my AW2015 range so enjoying that process for now. Who knows after that!?
Thanks Stacey, we are so very happy to have launched marlow this week and have you on board. marlow will be stocked at both our High St and Darby St stores. xx
